Regeneration

Oct 29, 2022

If you've been following social media for a while, or you're a member of Wise Women Sisterhood page or group, you'll know that for the past several years I've been talking up the profound and gorgeous importance of  "regeneration."

Regeneration of soul, regeneration of plants, regeneration of earth, regeneration of seasons, regeneration of self, of soil, regeneration of animals, regeneration of health without CRAPPY dieting but real change), regeneration of creativity...regeneration of everything!

  • Regeneration after adversity
  • Regeneration after trauma
  • Regeneration as a philosophy
  • Regeneration as a way of life
  • Regeneration as renewal
  • Regeneration as restoration
  • Regeneration as ReStorying™ļø

And here's why...

The WHY

Over 5 years ago now, we sold a very successful CA firm. It was the end of an era. Brett, my husband was completely burned out. I wasn't so much, but there's no question he was. Each day he'd leave early and drive down our driveway in the latest model white Merc (which I loved by the way,) and the car looked absolutely gorgeous, but my husband looked sad. Yep. He looked sad. And tired. And strained.

He was ready for something different.

He'd had the Porsches and the flash stuff. And that was great! He had the Merc. We had lots of OS trips and lots of great times. But...stress was in the air. (In fact he'd had a tough prior ten years and had spent a lifetime working long hours and serving hundreds of clients and heading a team of about 12- 15 employees.)

And you know what?

I'd had a tough bit of a time too - in fact I'd spent years working as a creative and a businesswoman and mentor to women, AND had also spent considerable earlier time in my life healing from adversity and the impacts of trauma (since 1990 in fact.) I was a lot happier though and not so stressed and I'd done a LOT of work on myself already and was mentoring a lot of women. But...I was still pretty well ready for something else. Beyond the firm...that was making my husband so sad.

So yes, stress and commitments and crazily hectic workloads were high on the life agenda. Too high.

On top of that, some years earlier (7-10 years earlier,) we'd both experienced pretty difficult marriage split ups, (can any of you women relate?) and then we found each other in a flukey "meant to be"  and even "spooky woo-woo" way (and yes this guy really is my hero) and we helped each other heal through some pretty difficult issues. (PS. I'm great friends with my ex now and love that this has been possible and doable through healing work and spiritual principles.)

So, 5 years ago, we really were ready to surrender the way we were living and tweak to a few (not all!) of the more alternative roots that were a feature of my earlier life.

(I'll proudly put my hand up to a bit of hippy-trippy and woo-woo, and I'm not ashamed to say these remain at the core of who I am and what I'm on about and sit quite comfortably with my coaching approach which is to continually create, self-create and re-create.)

Brett had also originally come from farming people here in New Zealand.

In fact his happiest memories were from those days on the family farm - the same farm his mum grew up on and that's now owned by a relative.

He'd always had the wish to return to the land one day...and so we decided to commit to the deeper principles that drove us beyond the surface-sparkling, latest model cars, and the house with the gorgeous heated pool and the private school that cost a bomb (which was a darn good school by the way) and the this and the that and the trappings and the plethora of "stuff" that supposedly represents "the successful life." *

We decided to dig down into "meaning."

Don't get me wrong - we do like "stuff" and like living well and we do. But we're also mindful of keeping this in balance with other systemic forces at play - kind of like living in a continuously moving chessboard or with the teeming soil, or as if you're residing in a state of systemic and interconnected change, where the one constant is motion/dynamism and simply has to be accepted as a primary force that leads to truth and love and simple, good sense.

So...we decided to dig down into meaning - where ecological, biological and scientific principles fuse seamlessly with spiritual and emotional and other key human concerns.

We sold up in town. We did well. We always do.

We bought an old farm. Nothing flash. It was rundown. Everything was broken.

It had even been rendered lifeless by toxic spray...so there were very few birds and animals around.

(Ever stepped on a farm where the soil is dead? There's no life there. There's no life force. There's no birds and bees and bugs and beauty. It's creepy and spooky and not gooooood!)

But it was a great place - and it could be regenerated and rejuvenated and restored and ReStoried™ with SO much gorgeous potential.

With so, so much to offer...off the main road and set back up a 500 metre driveway. It had fabulous promise - brimming with it -  and could be one of the next gorgeous life projects we'd get stuck into.

I decided also at that time, I'd stop everything except my Mentoring/Coaching of women, and my creative work, and do some farm stuff, and Brett decided he'd stop with the firm and just work his other business projects and turn the farm - our lovely Arapito Farm - into a paradise.

And of course along the way, we reclaimed and re-sourced a love of Regenerative philosophy and principles.

What is Regeneration?

Regeneration — is a way of being and living in the world that is fundamentally about regrowth and renewal and restoration, especially after some kind of damage, or deterioration or even loss. It involves acceptance of destruction as a part of life too.

It's about regrowth, renewal, restoration and supporting self and land and community to benefit from a way of life that is more connected in with the principles of the earth and the seasons and the land. It's also about learning how to really work with the dynamics and forces of change...which are of such great difficulty for so many women and also for human beings.

Basically - living regeneratively is how I've been living for years, and the move to the farm saw a dramatic uplevelling and even deeper and truer application of these principles and practices in daily life. (Don't forget I've been at this regeneration and life and transformation and uplevelling thing for quite a while now - decades in fact - so I'm well practiced with honing in on some really core values and principles and practices that work and in turn showing and guiding you how to do the same!)

Regeneration in my life? It's a welcome energy and force.

So much so, that it now infuses everything I do.

Regeneration and Coaching

For you as a woman who wants change...this REALLY IS where it's at.

I kid you not.

It is the missing link beyond all the talk-fests, beyond all the traumas!

Regenerative Coaching IS in my view, THE KEY to you making true and lasting change.

But one of the core tenets of regeneration is that it's NOT EXTREME! (And neither is my coaching!)

And

  • It is not about throwing out the old and then jumping onto the shiny, spangled new
  • It's not about throwing the proverbial baby out with the bathwater
  • it's not about me being a grab-bagging bowerbird that cobbles together a host of sourced threads to make a garment that doesn't fit well or feel that comfy. It just cannot work that way even though it can be about eclecticism and recycling and refashioning and creating.

Regeneration and Regenerative Coaching is about change. Big change! Little change. Fast change! Slow change. Incremental change.

And it's about being coached by a woman who's spent years doing this work on herself, for herself and for those around her.

It's also about consistency and true transformation.

  • It is about a re-creation of self in VERY, VERY NOVEL AND NEW WAYS.
  • It is about the kind of change that is wise and realistic and accepts and builds upon past failings and destruction.
  • It is about renewal of self and even completion of self
  • It is about discovery
  • It is about learning how to LIVE - really live - with change
  • and it is about creating the very best life right here right now in keeping with the work you want to commit to AND undertake
  • It is about strategies
  • It is about brilliant programmes
  • it is about working one to one or with me in the programmes so you learn to grow with a completely new way of viewing yourself and the world
  • it is about some woo-woo
  • and it is about a few little tweaks and hard yards here and there.

Many of you know that the principles you're introduced to in my coaching programs, membership and one to one elite coaching, involve regenerative philosophy and practices and principles. (Not so much organically though - as I don't like to foist this on other people as it is a personal decision.)

So in terms of Regeneration and ReStorying™ what I teach and coach you is indelibly linked to how and what I live.

Walking the Talk....

This means you're working with a guide and leader who walks her talk, who makes mistakes, is human, and who's done an incredible amount to shift from early adversity and homelessness to where I am today...which is pretty, bloody incredible and fantastic!

And one thing...

When you come into coaching with me, you don't have to be a "regenerative farmer!"

You just have to be a woman - usually (but not always) over 45+, (just remember my two youngest clients are in their 20's and are powering with massive shifts in life and love and business) who has experienced adversity or even some neglect or abandonment or trauma and who wants to renew, or restore or recreate or rejuvenate YOUR life so that it is more attuned to who you really are and who you actually want to be.

Many of the older clients in elite coaching and in programmes and membership also have an age-specific wish to resolve those last areas that have remained stuck and stubborn and resistant.

These are often painful, big issues you thought you would have resolved by now but are still looming over you. And some of you even mention you want to resolve these issues before passing away. And yes - I help you to absolutely do that.

So, regeneration and coaching go hand in hand at Camilla Slater Coaching and in Wise Women Sisterhood!

They're part of a complete and systemic and new way of living that can be specifically applied to YOUR life circumstances and where YOU ARE AT right here right now!

You really do get to transform and renew and recreate and ReSTORY YOUR LIFE, just as I have.

So on that note, have a gorgeous day and enjoy yourself.

Every moment is precious. This life thing is a total and complete gift if you learn how to harness your own capacity for regeneration and re-creation and change.

Much love,

Camilla xx
